Material selection is a critical part of CNC machining. At Waltay, we serve clients across industries like medical devices, sensor technology, electronics, and energy, each with unique demands. Here is a quick guide to some of the most commonly used materials—and why we recommend them based on application.
Aluminum Alloys (6061, 6063, 7075)
Lightweight and easy to machine, aluminum is ideal for housings, brackets, and structural frames.
·6061 offers strength and good general-purpose use
·6063 provides a superior anodized finish and is great for aesthetic or complex extrusions
·7075 is best when high strength is essential, like in mechanical assemblies
Stainless Steel (303, 304, 316)
Perfect for medical, marine, and chemical environments, offering excellent corrosion resistance.
·316 is preferred for harsh or sterile conditions
·303 machines better, ideal for small threaded parts
Engineering Plastics (PEEK, PPS, PTFE)
Used in medical and semiconductor applications, these materials are lightweight and chemically stable.
·PEEK is strong and heat-resistant
·PTFE is excellent for chemical resistance
·PPS balances strength and insulation
Brass and Copper
Common in electrical connectors and EMI shielding due to their high conductivity and ease of precision machining.
